Shreyas Iyer Resumes Training For IPL’s UAE Leg

Shreyas Iyer has begun his training to be fit for the Indian Premier League’s leg in the United Arab Emirates. Iyer, who led Delhi Capitals to the final last season, began training with Pravin Amre five days ago at the indoor BKC facility in Mumbai. Iyer was ruled out of Lancashire’s Royal London One-Day Cup campaign earlier this month.

Engaged by the franchise to assist Iyer

The franchise has hired Amre to assist Iyer in his training. Amre is primarily associated with the resurgence of Prithvi Shaw’s batting abilities after a disappointing Australia trip last year. They will work till July 31, when Iyer is required to report to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

“They have been working indoors mainly because there is no permission to do so outside. And there has been rained in Mumbai too,” a franchise source said.

The NCA officials will eventually grant the fitness go-ahead, but based on the development shown in the last five days, Iyer should be fit by the time the IPL resumes. The tournament will resume in the United Arab Emirates on September 19, with Delhi Capitals facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first match on September 22.

Sharjah, according to Bukhatir, is IPL-ready

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium administrators have stated that the site is ready to offer secure games, just one day after the Board of Control for Cricket in India released the IPL schedule. The BCCI has given Sharjah ten of the remaining 31 IPL games.

“We are more than ready and looking forward to hosting the players in a safe and secure environment. Our facilities continue to be upgraded and our pitches, as the past has shown, are ideal for an event like the IPL. To host this world-class tournament once again is a privilege,” Khalaf Bukhatir, the CEO of Sharjah Cricket Stadium, said.

When Rajasthan Royals defeated Punjab Kings by 223 runs in IPL 2020, the Sharjah Stadium witnessed the highest run chase in IPL history. On September 24, a match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be played at the ground for the first time this year. Two playoff games will be held at the venue: Qualifier 2 on October 11 and the Eliminator on October 13.
