Mustafizur Cites Difficulty in Bio-Bubbles
With the increase in time spent in bio bubbles, Mustafizur Rahman has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board that he will be unavailable for Tests. BCB introduced a format-based contract that excluded Mustafizur from the red-ball segment. Mustafizur has spent the majority of his time in bio-bubbles since cricket returned to the country last year, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to play continuous cricket in bio-bubbles.
Muztafizur New Bio-Bubble
Muztafizur expected to enter a new bubble after the ongoing series against New Zealand when he travels to the UAE to play in the Indian Premier League, and then enter another bubble to play in the ICC World T20. After Mustafizur’s request, BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan told reporters on Thursday that the team had decided not to keep him for Tests.
”Mustafizur is not interested to take part in Tests at the moment. He told us that it is difficult for him to concentrate on Tests, playing it under bio-bubble and so he does not want to take part in Tests at the moment,” said Akram.
”We have taken that decision very positively and have discussed it and accepted his request because he is a very important player in the white-ball format,” he said.
”We have introduced format-wise contracts because there are cricketers like Nasum and Shamim who are only part of T20s. Earlier if it was a white ball that implied ODIs and T20s but now a new group is coming up who are playing only in T20s,” he added.
”We have made different payment slabs based upon performance and we kept that so that there is competition between cricketers. When a cricketer is coming to Test from T20s there is a raise and similarly, when he is coming to ODIs there is some raise so players will be eager to perform so that he can be considered across formats,” he said.
