Mehidy Hasan Helps Bangladesh Beat Sri Lanka

Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 33 runs in the first One-Day International on Sunday, thanks to spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz who took four wickets despite a late comeback from Wanindu Hasaranga.

Mehidy bowled Sri Lanka for 224 in 10 overs of his off spin, helping the tourists chase down a target of 258, however Hasaranga, who batted at number eight, made a courageous 74 off 60 balls.
Bangladesh reached 257-6 after opting to bat first in the three-match series, Mushfiqur Rahim(84) and Mahmudullah Riyad(54) put up 109 runs for the fifth wicket.
Sri Lanka’s Hasaranga
Sri Lanka were 102-6 when Hasaranga put up 47 runs with Dasun Shanaka and then 62 runs with Isuru Udana for the eighth wicket to restore their hopes. Following this Saifuddin(2-49) dismissed Shanaka for 14 runs before dismissing Hasaranga, who smashed three fours and five sixes in his 60-ball innings.

Positive For Covid-19
Before the match, Sri Lanka was dealt a setback when all-rounder Shiran Fernando was ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19 twice in two days however a second test cleared Udana and Vaas of the virus and the match began on time.
Salary Dispute With the Country’s Cricket Officials
Kusal Perera led the Sri Lankan players, who are also involved in a salary dispute with the country’s cricket officials ahead of the series.
“Losing isn’t good, but we had a lot of positives. The bowlers bowled in the right directions. Batting wise Wanindu (Hasaranga) did a good job,” said Perera after loosing the match against Bangladesh.
