BCCI Plans U-25 Inter-State Tournament, permanent CEO

Changes to the domestic structure and administrative hierarchy in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are being considered. The big conference in Delhi concluded that opinions should be sought on whether an Under-25 tournament, rather than the current Under-23 championship, is the way ahead in the Indian domestic setup.

Permanent Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The idea to hold an Under-25 competition rather than an Under-23 tournament is ostensibly to boost the opportunities of fringe players in the first-class cricket environment, who would otherwise be unable to participate in the game if they did not make it to their state’s Ranji team. It’s considered a bold move that will keep many young people interested in the game, whether or not they compete in the Ranji Trophy.

However, before moving further with the new age group, the BCCI may seek input from state associations. The next meet will most likely be an A tour for the State teams.

Health risk for the youngsters

Given the country’s epidemic condition, there was also discussion over whether or not to have an Under-16 competition. With no vaccination required for those under the age of 18, it appears that staging a domestic competition for those under the age of 16 will pose a health danger to the children.

The decision to hire a permanent CEO is understandable given that Amin has been in charge of the BCCI administration since Rahul Johri, the organization’s first CEO, left late last year. The recruitment process’s specifics are unknown. Johri was identified by a head-hunting firm that was hired by the board of directors in 2016.

Participation of foreign players in the IPL

The BCCI is in talks with foreign boards about their players’ participation in the competition, as this website revealed on Saturday. It will now take a few days to formally notify them and permit them to begin looking for prospective replacements if some foreign players become unavailable.
