BCB Hoping to Extending Ashwell Prince’s Contract

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is hoping to reach an agreement with batting consultant Ashwell Prince on a contract extension that will allow him to stay with the team at least until the end of the T20 World Cup.

”We are talking with him (Prince) about extending his contract and we are hopeful soon we will be able to reach an agreement,” BCB’s Cricket Operations Chairman Akram Khan said.

”At this point getting a new batting consultant is difficult and he has performed reasonably well in Zimbabwe so we are keen to have him in our coaching set-up,” he added.

The Prince is Not available for the Upcoming series

Prince is out for the next home series against Australia, but BCB is hopeful that he will be available for the T20I series against New Zealand the following week.

In early June, the BCB brought in Prince and Rangana Herath to advise on batting and spin bowling, respectively. Unlike Herath, who was committed till the completion of the T20 World Cup in October-November, Prince was only hired for the Zimbabwe trip.

Prince, who takes over from Jon Lewis, is the third South African in Bangladesh’s current coaching staff after Russell Domingo and fielding coach Ryan Cook. The 44-year-old is also a Level 3 coach who has coached the Cape Cobras, served as the batting consultant for South Africa A, and served as the interim head coach for the A squad.
