BCB exploring Possiblity of Extending Domingo’s Contract
Russell Domingo’s contract as Bangladesh’s head coach could be extended till the T20 World Cup, which will be placed in Australia in 2022. Discussions are still underway, according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan, who did not disclose anything at this time. Regardless of what he said
“there is a possibility” of Domingo’s contract being extended.
“We have not taken any final decision in this regard. His tenure is till the upcoming T20 World Cup and there is no problem with it. There is a possibility that his contract will be extended. But we have not spoken with him about it. We are discussing it, after that we will make a decision,” said BCB president Nazmul Hasan.
Domingo was hired by BCB in August 2019 on a two-year contract, which was then extended till the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which will be held in the UAE and Oman from October 2021. Domingo’s performance was so dissatisfactory that the BCB’s higher-ups appointed monitors to oversee his operations.
The chairman of game development, Khaled Mahmud, remained with the team throughout the Sri Lankan series, both at home and away. The team’s visit to New Zealand was accompanied by Jalal Yunus, chairman of the BCB media committee, and the team’s tour of Zimbabwe was seen by BCB director Ahmed Sazzadul Alam.
Performances of Bangladesh
In the meantime, Bangladesh’s performance has significantly improved in recent months. They drew the two-Test series in Sri Lanka and won the three-match ODI series at home against the same opponents. They also won in Zimbabwe across all forms, with their biggest win coming against Australia in the recently finished T20I series, which Bangladesh won 4-1.
The victories have given Domingo and the rest of the coaching team a boost, with their contracts certain to be extended till the T20 World Cup in Australia next year. “We are thinking of extending it for one year as we have two T20 World Cups and we are only thinking about these two events at the moment. We can get a clear picture after discussing it with everyone,” added Nazmul.
