Azizullah Fazli Elected as ACB Chairman

Following Afghanistan’s disastrous World Cup campaign, Fazl was replaced by Farhan Yousufzai. He has also been associated with Afghanistan cricket for the past 20 years, serving on the board of directors as a vice-chairman and advisor.

From September 1 to 5, Afghanistan will play Pakistan in a three-match One-Day International series in Sri Lanka. With commercial flights from Kabul’s international airport still suspended and Sri Lanka under a 10-day curfew as a result of the escalating Covid-19 cases, Fazli faces a tough task in devising a contingency plan and ensuring the series’ smooth running.

The dates of the Shpageeza Cricket League, Afghanistan’s local T20 competition due to be hosted in Kabul, could be advanced if the series does not go forward for any reason. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has agreed to offer permission for the site in principle, but the ACB has yet to receive authorization. If the series is canceled for some reason, the dates of the Shpageeza Cricket League, Afghanistan’s local T20 competition, which will be hosted in Kabul, may be moved forward.
