Angelo Mathews Will Miss White-Ball Series

Angelo Mathews will miss the white-ball series against India after requesting that he be released from national duty until further notice due to a contract issue with Sri Lanka Cricket. 29 of the 30 players shortlisted for the white-ball series against India have signed the tour contract, according to SLC.

Refused To Sign Tour Contract

Sri Lanka’s players refused to sign tour contracts for the England series last month, citing a continuing dispute with the board over the central contracts’ claimed lack of transparency.

The players thought the grading system was unclear and that the compensation they were given was insufficient. That was just days before Sri Lanka’s limited-overs tour of England began. The tour proceeded as planned, with Sri Lanka finishing the tour winless.

Suspended Under Pending Investigation For The Breach

Vice-captain Kusal Mendis, opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka, and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella were all sent home and suspended pending an investigation for breaching the team’s bio-security bubble. It’s unclear whether they’ll be part of the India series at this time.
