Allen Set to Join Squad After Two Negative COVID Tests
New Zealand batter Finn Allen has returned two negative COVID-19 tests and will be reintegrated into the team bubble, according to New Zealand Cricket. They are unsure when Allen will be able to return to the field. After testing positive for COVID-19, he was forced to miss the first game of the ongoing series against Bangladesh.
“It’s great for us. He has been a big part of our squad,” New Zealand head coach Glenn Poknall said
“Hopefully, he will come as soon as possible but he will have to undergo a couple of (fitness) tests. He will come into consideration, it’s just a matter of when. He is physically fit but we need to assess on what game he comes into the team,” he said.
“He is a very attacking batsman and he had shown that around the world in the shorter format, and he will certainly add a lot of fire in our batting line-up,” he added.
Ajaz Patel is looking for tips on how to improve his left arm
New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel is eager to pick Daniel Vettori’s brains and hopes to maintain his form in the ongoing series against Bangladesh.
Patel was a rare standout performer for the visitors in the first T20I, returning the second most economical figure by a New Zealand spinner in a T20I (1/7), second only to Daniel Vettori’s 3 for 6.
“Two people I had looked forward as a left-arm bowler were Dan (Daniel Vettori) and Rangana (Herath).l had a brief chat with him (Rangana) and I have got a chat lined up with Dan (Vettori) today about what was his experience in Bangladesh like,” Patel said.
“It would be nice to pick his (Vettori) brains and what kind of challenges will be there and how to adapt with it.
“It’s always nice for a spinner when you come to a surface that assists you and you must try to make the most of it.
Patel Expressed Confidence
“We will take a lot of learning from yesterday and it’s nice to get out there though we were training a few days before them. We never know what it’s going to be like until we get into the middle. I think we will learn from that pretty quickly and adapt for the next one,” he said adding that they had a good team meeting last night.
”I think it’s (team meeting) about getting a clear idea about what we had experienced last night and what our plans are going forward. It’s all about looking ahead and how we can build from yesterday looking for the next game,” he said.
